BIG THANK YOU FROM THE MOLDOVAN RUGBY FEDERATION PRESIDENT
"I want to thank you for all you do for the promotion and development of Moldova rugby. SOS curriculum is necessary for developing countries and especially for children and junior schools in Moldova have increased in recent years."
President of the Moldovan Rugby Federation - Vasile Revenco
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rugby is the great success story in Moldova who recently beat the mighty Germany in a European Nations game. The Federation has a really ambitious schools programme that SOS is assisting with and it is expected that rugby realistically will soon overtake football as the No 1 sport,
Moldovan rugby is punching well above it's weight. In terms of amount of players, Moldova should be world ranked around 48 but is currently 20 places above that - well done!
The Moldovan President sent an email to SOS saying "Thanks for your support. We have received latest kit delivery without problems. Your assistance is very necessary to us for developing rugby. Thanks big!" Watch out for Moldovan rugby they are really going places and we hope to get a Moldovan junior team over on tour soon! Moldova joined the project in 2002.
Ion Cebotari and Bradford Grammar
Thanks to Stuart Taylor for hosting young moldovan rugby coach Ion Cebotari. Ion has now returned home having had a wonderful time in England thanks to the generosity of Bradford Grammar School. Ion said "I wanted to take back to Moldova a better understanding of how young people in different ages play here and learn more about how they are coached and to get all the young people in Moldova I coach on the same level as english rugby. Everyone at Bradford Grammar and in England have been so very, very kind to me. England is a wonderful place."
Stuart said "I'm sure it has been a great experience for Ion and he'll certainly have plenty of material to use when he gets home. He has hours of video footage of the sessions he attended, masses of coaching literature and even more kit - he will definitely have problems at the airport with excess luggage "
Stuart got to hear about Ion through Bradford Grammar's support of SOS IRB Kit Aid and put together a two week programme for which the school generously paid. A big thanks to Stuart and all at Bradford Grammar for making Ion's stay so memorable and helping Moldovan junior rugby to progress too!
The power of rugby
The headmistress of a school in Moldova is now a true convert to rugby. One year ago an exchange student from Spain asked if he could start one class playing rugby. She reluctantly agreed - knowing nothing about this strange game. When the exchange student left, the school rugby captain (fine gentleman wearing an RFU referee's shirt from SOS in the picture) kept the rugby going.
After the first year she noticed this particular rugby class was the best disciplined, best behaved and you know what - had the best exam results! She is convinced this is down to the discipline/enjoyment of playing rugby.
So surprise, surprise she now has four classes playing rugby - all thanks to kit from SOS IRB KIt Aid. She said to Andy Thompson of SOS on a recent visit to the country - "The children who play rugby are the best behaved and most content in the school. Thank you to SOS IRB Kit Aid"
How many classes next year? - place your bets!
