London update 2011

Since the launch of LV= SOS Kit Aid, London has seen a huge amount of activity in both collecting and donating kit.

Kit Collection:

Lord's Cricket Ground, the home of cricket, hosted LV= SOS Kit Aid's second regional kit collection day and was a huge success. The action-packed day kicked off with Middlesex CCC and Kent CCC players donating some of their own kit to LV= SOS Kit Aid before the first day of their LV= County Championship match got under way. To encourage as many people to donate kit, Middlesex CCC offered free entry for anyone donating a piece of kit, plus free cricket and rugby and coaching sessions hosted by The Lord's Taverners in the afternoon.

Hitz Rugby

Kit collected at Lord's has been used to directly benefit the Hitz rugby initiative. In partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Hitz targets young people at risk of exclusion and anti-social behaviour in inner-London estates. Introducing them to tag, touch and contact rugby, Hitz uses the sport as a means to engage, empower and raise aspirations.

Addington School

Women's rugby world cup finalist, Amy Williams, was on hand to present rugby and cricket kit to pupils at Addington School, Croydon. Addington School’s pupils have limited access to sport due to a lack of equipment funding. Thanks to LV= SOS Kit Aid this is set to change, with teh Croydon School being presented with 30 full sets of rugby kit and 15 full sets of cricket kit to the pupils on 14 July.

Archbishop Tenison's School

22 of the best fast bowlers to ever grace an international cricket field were in London last week for The Lord's Taverners Macquarie Fast Bowlers Dinner and have shown their support for LV= SOS Kit Aid while at a coaching session by donating rugby and cricket kit to the school.

Some of the legendary fast bowlers were at Archbishop Tenisons School, located oppostie the Oval Cricket Ground, last week to show their support for sport in the community and LV= SOS Kit Aid, where teh school received a great donation of rugby and cricket kit.
