LV= SOS KIT DAY AT KINGSDOWN GOLF CLUB A HUGE SUCCESS
Rugby charity project LV= SOS Kit Aid held its Annual Golf Day on a glorious sunny day at the Kingsdown Golf Club near Corsham on Friday 2 September.
A total of 34 teams (136 players) played for a variety of prizes during the day with SOS Ambassadors and Rugby greats Gareth Chilcott and Graham Price over seeing the event and ensuring everyone had fun.
All teams were kitted out in various team shirts, which has become a striking tradition for the day (kindly supplied by Raging Bull Sportswear) which brought an air of competitive enthusiasm to the proceedings.
The Team winners were:
1st – Black Pearl Maritime - Chris Stewart, Chris Edwards, Phil Wall and Vince Geiger
2nd - The Bear At Box - Mark Stanley, Shane Goulding, Paul Boswell and Andy Guy
3rd – Minton Consultants - Eddie Murray, Simon Wilmott, Kev Watts and Len Beel
Individual awards went to:
1st – Chris Edwards
2nd - Vince Geiger
3rd - Ray Wolstenholme
Other notable winners of various special prizes were Barry Smith, Philip Michael, Steve Ashley, Stewart Good, Will Henderson, Lyn Johns, Len Beel, Paul Stonham, Dave Swindell, Ewan Tavendale and Trish Ritchie.
LV= SOS Kit Aid Chairman John Broadfoot said - "We would like to thank all our principal sponsors LV= & Raging Bull and the many other companies who sponsored holes and prizes. During these difficult financial times it’s important to recognise everyone who makes a contribution to making the day so successful. Sponsors are key to any charity event and we truly recognise their particular support. Also a huge thank you to every one of the 136 players for taking part and for taking time out of their busy lives in support of the day.
John went on to say, “This is an important day for us - it enables us to raise money to send key items to developing rugby nations like Ukraine, Georgia, Swaziland and Kenya. This helps to improve children's health through playing sport and helps cut carbon emissions too by saving this kit from going to landfill or the furnace.”
"In just 10 years SOS has delivered over 90,000 kgs of quality rugby kit to some 16 developing rugby nations, we estimate therefore that 90,000 kids have been helped by SOS”
Richard Westaway SOS South & South West Director thanked the 34 teams for their fantastic support, which helped raise in the region of £9,000 for LV= SOS Kit Aid. During difficult economic times, to raise such a figure and gain such support is fantastic.
A big thank you goes to Nick Burridge, the SOS photographer, for the fantastic images he captured of the day.
Finally, massive thanks to Kingsdown Golf Club and everyone at the club for a truly magnificent day. We also extend our thanks to Mr David Trick for a most hilarious prize giving.
